With a healthy 77.13 bushels an acre, Charles Farms, Inc. of Lancaster County captured the 2005 Pennsylvania Soybean Yield Contest.

Production notes:

2005 was the first year the contest has not received a conventional till entry. No till represented half the entries, and minimum till the other half. The no till entries averaged two bushels per acre higher yield.

The mean bushels per acre in the contest was 61.44.

65.4% of entries were planted May 10 or earlier.

95% of entries inoculated.

84% reported a soil test within the last 3 years.

57.7% of entries used 10 inch or narrower rows, most commonly 7 to 7.5 inch.
